Protect your solar panel system

Your commercial solar panel system is designed for minimal maintenance and long-term productivity. Despite this, unforeseen issues like environmental factors, third-party interference, or component failure can arise, potentially causing energy generation losses and substantial long-term costs.

Equipment needs to be regularly checked, especially the inverter, for signs of faults and monitor production to safeguard your income and savings. We recommend an annual professional maintenance visit to identify potential faults, ensuring equipment longevity and upholding warranties.

For tailored maintenance packages aligned with your business needs, contact us. Protect your solar investment and secure uninterrupted energy production

WHAT CAN YOU DO

Solar panel system owners can enhance performance and achieve energy and sustainability goals with a few straightforward steps:

  1. Visually inspect solar modules from the ground for slipped modules, damage, or soiling.
  2. If safely accessible, visually check the inverter for indications of faults or damage.
  3. Verify that the meter records increasing energy generation.
  4. After heavy winter snow, visually inspect for signs of structural distress.
  5. Minimise shading caused by vegetation growth when feasible.

By incorporating these measures, you can optimise the efficiency and longevity of your PV system, ensuring it performs at its best and meets your objectives.

ANNUAL INSPECTIONS

Our annual inspection and service for solar panel systems aim to identify issues and prevent potential problems. The service includes:

  1. Functional examination of AC & DC isolators, checking for damage and ingress.
  2. Inspection of DC junction boxes for damage and ingress.
  3. Verification of the integrity of fuses and surge protectors where applicable.
  4. Validation that energy generation aligns with predictions.
  5. Secure mounting check for inverter(s).
  6. Verification of proper ventilation and unobstructed airflow, including the operation of fans.
  7. Inspection for signs of water or other ingress in externally mounted inverters.
  8. Examination of inverter fault log(s).
  9. Assessment of AC voltage at inverter(s) and identification of overvoltage risks.
  10. Testing of DC circuits, including Vsc, lsc, and Earth leakage.
  11. Confirmation of the presence and accuracy of all labelling and signage, including the system schematic.
  12. Ensuring the visibility of the emergency shutdown procedure.

This comprehensive service aims to maintain the longevity and reliability of your solar panel system.

OPTIONAL PV CHECKS

In addition to the suggested checks outlined above, we can perform the following enhanced assessments, contingent upon access availability and other necessary equipment and resources:

  1. Ensure the stability, damage-free condition, and proper support of DC connectors, keeping them away from pooled water.
  2. Verify the adequate support and damage-free condition of cables.
  3. Confirm the security of module clamps by testing the torque of a random sample.
  4. Ensure the stability and distortion-free condition of mounting rails, including fixing brackets.
  5. Conduct a test for string series resistance.
  6. Conduct a test for string insulation resistance (Riso).
  7. Test for Potential Induced Degradation (PID).
  8. Perform a thermographic survey to identify faulty components and module cells

Frequency and Repairs

The recommended service frequency will likely be tied to your corporate risk tolerance, insurer preferences, or compliance team guidelines. However, we advise a minimum annual inspection for certain items, a biennial frequency for others, and a need-based approach for the rest. An exception is the AC electrical component, governed by the current edition of the Wiring Regulations, and we’re here to assist with that aspect as well.

GB NRG provides a call-out service for fault investigation and repairs if your solar panel system experiences an inverter failure, system fault, or loss of generation. This service is accessible to both GB NRG customers and installations by third parties. The offerings include:

  1. Replacement of the generation meter, along with the production of a certificate.
  2. Replacement of AC or DC isolator.
  3. Re-setting of tripped MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker).
  4. Replacement of faulty or undersized MCB.
  5. Re-connection of monitoring hardware to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
  6. Inverter swap, where the inverter is replaced under the manufacturer’s warranty.
  7. Optimiser swap, with replacement under the manufacturer’s warranty.
